How to actually start doing things that bring you energy

We all hear these quips...

"Do things that spark joy".

"Do what lights you up".

"Do things aligned to your greatest self".

While those sentiments are great, sometimes it's hard to know how to understand what that means for us and how to create it.

Our environments create a subtle yet extraordinarily powerful influence over our habits and consciousness.

As Peter Sage said, "No matter how hard you try to stay warm, if you choose to live in a freezer, you're going to get cold eventually".

When our environments and consequently our habits are out of alignment with what fits our true nature, it's so easy to find ourselves in constant struggle. We live in cities, when we're meant to live more in nature. We work more to spend our money on stuff when what we really crave is more time/space, freedom in our day. As entrepreneurs we work in isolation, when collaboration is our most efficient path to building a business.

It takes consciousness to create a more intentional environment.

Here are 3 steps to tune back into your true nature:

  • STEP ONE: Connect with your desires. Write down 5 things you want every morning. Anything goes. A private jet, to dance, more time with friends, a massage - anything. Observe how it feels to have permission to write this. Observe where fear and resistance appear, observe where ease and excitement appear. Over time see if there's a trending theme.

  • STEP TWO: Write out 3 columns on a piece of paper. YES/MAYBE/NO. Then begin to list anything in your day or week that fits under that theme. YES, you love it. MAYBE, not sure how you feel. NO, you just aren't moved by it anymore. In the beginning you don't need to make a change, you can simply observe this information.

  • STEP THREE: Commit to ONE thing that is a full body YES. Simply take action. Get rid of the clothes that are a "maybe" or "no". Say a gracious NO to doing more work that drains you. Sign up for the free class. Read a book every night before bed. Crowd-IN your joy in small ways!
